Asians work longer hours than just about everyone else in the world. South Koreans, for example, spend more than 45 hours a week on their jobs - 10 more than Australians or New Zealanders. They are outdone by Singaporeans and Indians, who work more than 46 hours a week on average.
A recent report by the International Labor Organization, ILO, finds that while economic growth has pushed up wages in many Asian countries, until recently, that growth had not translated into shorter working hours.
But the author of the report, Gyorgy Sziraczki, believes that the number of working hours in Asia has started to decline.
"It is very much welcomed, because it will give a better chance for workers and their families to enjoy the benefits of globalization and economic growth outside their job and also to have a more productive job with better working conditions, and one of the important aspects of better working conditions is the working time," noted Mr. Sziraczki.
Several countries in the region have introduced five-day work weeks in recent years.
This year, Malaysia and Bangladesh have given their civil servants Saturdays off, while Singapore already introduced a five-day week for civil servants last year.

There can be no doubt at all that both Chin Chong Uh and Amdeng Chu mean one and the same thing, namely, that this pipe was received from Nai Moke in payment of cost of opium. The reason why Chin Chong Uh does not say so out-right is because he does not want officials to know that he gives opium in exchange with articles. Therefore, in order not to be so understood, he says that Nai Moke came and smoked opium and left this pipe in deposit, i.e., by way of security for the cost of opium.
As for the evidence that Nai Moke stole this pipe from Nai Deng there is the evidence of Chin Yuh who lives at 3 wahs distance from Nai Dengs hut (Kratom) and who says that Nai Moke came to Nai Dengs hut in the absence of Nai Deng and stayed there a long time touching this pipe and other things in the hut, and there is the evidence of Nai Deng who says that he missed this pipe that may on his return to his hut. Moreover, there is the evidence of Nai Hio who saw this pipe in Chin Chong Uhs shop and recognized it as Nai Dengs pipe and having learnt from Chin Chong Uh that Nai Moke had brought it, informed Nai Deng, the owner, about it. In view of these circumstances we have no doubt that Nai Moke, Accused, is the thief who stole this pipe from Nai Dengs hut. As for Chin Chong Uh there is no evidence to show that he received it from Nai Moke with knowledge that it was stolen property.
For these reasons we reverse the judgments of the Courts below and sentence Ai Moke, Accused, to imprisonment for six months and acquit Chin Chong Uh, Accused.

Statutes of Iimitation : An additional legislative restriction of the courts power to hear a particular matter is statutes of limitation. Statutes of limitation prescribe the time periods in which actions must be brought. The plaintiff must file within the time limit or be forever barred from seeking relief; violation of the statute of limitations is a defense to the suit. The purpose is to ensure that the action is brought within a reasonable time and while the evidence is still fresh. As time proceeds, valuable information could be lost or destroyed, and witnesses memories of the event fade.

The government has come up with an ambitious plan to establish a special administrative area, to be called Nakhon Suvarnabhumi, around the new Bangkok international airport which is scheduled to open next year. On its completion which is expected to take 10 years, Nakhon Suvarnabhumi would be a dream city of modernity with proper town planning, modern infrastructure and a good quality of life, serving as an economic base for the new era, government spokesman Surapong Suebwonglee said after a meeting of ministers and officials chaired by Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra yesterday.
Mr Surapong said the government wants to develop the area around Suvarnabhumi airport for future economic growth and to be a logistical hub. Apart from the airport, the new special administrative area would provide easy access to Laem Chabang deep-sea port, he said.
A committee, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Visanu Krue-ngarm, would be set up to draft a bill for the establishment of Nakhon Suvarnabhumi in coordination with several agencies, but mainly the Interior Ministry.
One of the reasons for establishing the new administrative area is to avoid the problems of having the airport under two separate administrations _ the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and the provincial administration organisation of Samut Prakan.
The draft bill, on its completion, would be forwarded to the cabinet for approval. After cabinet approval, public hearings would be held since the legislation would have a significant effect on a large number of people. The draft would then be forwarded to the House of Representatives when Parliament opens its new session in March 2006. The new administration would take shape in 2007 after the bill is passed into law.
The area in question would gradually be transformed into the new administrative zone as it presently comes under both the BMA and tambon administration organisations of Samut Prakan.
``During the transition period, which may be three to four years, the administration of Nakhon Suvarnabhumi, which would have provincial level status, will have an appointed governor. The governor does not necessarily have to come from the Interior Ministry, but may be from other ministries,'' Mr Surapong said.
After the transition period, the governor would be elected.
News of the zone was greeted with scepticism by community leaders in Samut Prakan. Songchai Nokkhamin, chairman of Rachathewa tambon administration organisation of Samut Prakan's Bang Phli district, said the plan was news to him. In the past, the government had paid no attention to the living conditions of the people residing near the new airport. Local people should have been told before any plans were launched that it would affect their living conditions, he said.
Somkid Ruang-aram, chairman of the Samut Prakan Chamber of Commerce, said he wondered why the government did not plan to change the whole of Samut Prakan, rather than just selected areas, into Nakhon Suvarnabhumi. ``Everyone in the province should get the same treatment. First, there must be clear answers to the existing problems of garbage, encroachment and traffic,'' he said.

ก่อนหน้านี้ ผู้รู้ในวงการหลายท่านพูดถึง Superfetch คุณสมบัติใหม่ที่มีอยู่ใน Vista ซึ่งว่ากันว่า มันช่วยให้ระบบปฎิบัติการสามารถรันแอพพลิเคชันได้เร็วขึ้น 15% และเพิ่มสมรรถนะของพีซีโดยรวมให้เร็วขึ้น 50%แต่ประเด็นที่น่าสนใจคือ มีข่าวหลุดออกมาว่า คุณสมบัติการทำงานดังกล่าวมีอยู่แล้วใน Windows XP!!!

Microsoft lost the patent battle over the ancient FAT format that is used to identify and retrieve files on storage devices like your MP3 player. Microsoft will no doubt continue to pursue this case because there is money and control in it. If the patents are ever upheld, it will be in a position to attack applications like Linux, Samba, your MP3 player and anything else they can think of.
On the subject of Linux, Microsoft is still not considering making its Office suite available for that platform. This leaves the way clear for the open source products, which work very well these days, to remain the dominant application on Linux.
Microsofts next version of Office, version 12, will add the ability to publish a document as a PDF file. Due out sometime before Christmas next year, it will not have the capability to import a PDF file, however. The Save As function will be included in all the programs in the new suite. The default format for Office 12 will be XML, or what MS is calling open-XML.
Why not the good old .doc format, you may ask? Well, PDF is considered an open format while .doc isnt. With the recent announcement from Massachusetts to mandate the use of open documents, this encouraged Microsoft to either change or potentially see its market slip away from them - like it is starting to in places like Europe and parts of Asia.
Not wanting to be left out, however, Microsoft is creating its own PDF-like format called Metro, which will come with the next version of Windows, now called Vista, when that arrives. Metro will allow people without Office to view and print Office Documents, a lot like the free Adobe PDF reader has done for years.
With a product like Metro, Microsoft can both mount a challenge to Adobe and move towards being identified as an open source format company.
Paramount is the first studio to break ranks and announce support for both DVD formats, a move which has people watching to see if others will follow. Paramount was in the HD DVD only group. Part of the decision may be based on the illusion that the security in Blu-ray is better. As you and I know, any security will be cracked soon after release, no matter what the format.
With the movie Doom released, Peter Jackson of Lord of the Rings fame has signed a deal with Microsoft to make a movie based on the popular shoot-em-up game Halo. The movie is scheduled for release in 2007 and will be shot in New Zealand.
If you live in Australia you can legally mod your Sony Playstation to play imported games, or at least this was the decision from the High Court there. The blocking of games not purchased on the host country to me is the same as the unethical DVD zoning implementation still being forced on the world today. The rules should be simple: if I bought the thing I should be able to use it. Australia is one of the countries that has seen this for the PlayStation but, so far, unlike New Zealand, it still has the zoned DVDs.
In the last Microsoft security update there were patches for eight security flaws, with one critical. The security monitoring company Secunia has details of 20 bugs in Internet Explorer that need to be fixed, so I guess that Microsoft is running a little behind. The update does include a new version of the Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool.
By the time you read this Macromedia may have released Flex Builder 2, a.k.a. Zorn, a tool that lets you link your open source Eclipse skills to produce Flash items. The release is an alpha with the final version due out later next year. คำศัพท์
